Dear Chance,
I spotted you at PetSmart when they were showing the pound puppies. I called Rich (16 at the time) over and older sister, Jessica too. I said, “Look, isn’t he the cutest puppy you’ve seen?” They both of course fell in love with him. But…I had to say no. I had enough responsibility at the time.
We left and went home. Of course, over the next 24 hours, Rich begged me to go back for him. He said that he would take care of him and pay for the adoption fees out of his own saved money. After a load of hesitation, I said OK. So back we went to the humane society to find him. When we found him, Rich was so very happy. I said once again; “Now Rich, this is your dog!”
Chance, you were like a little nurse dog. When a puppy that was visiting our home crawled under an idling car, you hurried over and repeatedly dragged the puppy to safety. Our hero time and time again.
Rich went off to school and in to the Navy and ultimately Chance, you have been Mom’s dog. You have given me so much comfort in sad days and also so much joy. We had a lot of fun walks in the park, didn’t we? I thank you for being there for me.
You were always my guard. Then you had to leave us after 15 loyal years. Your days on earth were done. We all loved you and miss you so much and know that you are now in doggie heaven running through the fields with Mack dog.
